Traditional Layering is Dead - Jack Marrano, CDT
9:00-9:50am: Michigan 3, East Tower, Concourse (Bronze) Level
In this presentation, Jack will take attendees on a journey of discovery and uncover all that is possible with MiYO®. By breaking down the process of creating monolithic restorations and developing an understanding of the optical properties of our ceramic materials we can maximize our esthetic outcomes and make educated choices with the restorative options available. This session will combine different types of all ceramic restorative options that are ceramic essentials and how they apply to your current and future monolithic single unit and all on X cases. The advantages of utilizing MiYO for all restorations will be discussed not only from a standpoint of esthetics but also from a business and management viewpoint. Scalability will be discussed in great detail and what that means in today’s Dental Laboratory environment for technicians managers and owners. Join Jack as he illustrates the techniques for achieving beautiful and predictable zirconia restorations that are sure to increase case acceptance through improved esthetics. Whether you work in a large lab, or a small, boutique studio, this session will increase your confidence and improve your understanding of designing, applying MiYO and finishing zirconia crowns to create beautiful patient based restorations.
What you will learn:
- Essentials of zirconia substructure design
- The monolithic canvas and material choices
- Form and function – Learn why these two words will forever be linked in dental design
- All that is possible with the different components of the MiYO Liquid Ceramic System

11:00am-11:50am
Ultra Dynamic Protocols with MiYO - James Choi, MDT
11:00-11:50am: Michigan 3, East Tower, Concourse (Bronze) Level
Today, patients’ high esthetic demands require us to push the envelope to recreate natural teeth and tissue, in turn, giving restorations a more natural look with proper esthetic contours. In this lecture, using his successes and failures with his latest clinical cases, James Choi will share his secrets to effectively create beautiful restorations with today’s popular dental materials and techniques. James will also explain what possible problems may present in highly esthetic demanding cases and how to solve them. Attend and learn James’ case planning strategies from start to finish; learn what to look out for and avoid, learn how to select the best material and learn how to efficiently process every case that comes through your lab. Zirconia and Lithium Disilicate (including translucent categories of ZR and LD), Layered on ZR, Refractory Veneers and Monolithic will all be discussed. Join James to discover how MiYO can cover all of the protocols of fabricating lifelike restorations and understand the different application techniques to utilize MiYO as the foundation for all underlying ceramic materials available. Attend and learn how to challenge today’s mediocrity and make it your own with MiYO.
What you will learn:
- How new technologies allow technicians to more accurately hit shades and replicate details found in patients’ natural dentition
- How to use a combination of layered and liquid ceramics to achieve highly esthetic results
- What factors should be considered when using a combination of layered and liquid ceramic materials
James Choi is a certified master dental ceramist with over 18 years of technical experience in crown and bridge, ceramics, implants and dental photography. Prior to opening his own dental laboratory in Connecticut, James held the title of Lab Director for the Master Ceramist Program at UCLA where he was responsible for training students to be some of the best dental technicians our industry has to offer. His extensive background in the dental lab industry gives him a deep understanding of the technical and business issues dental technicians and laboratory owners face daily. Always working to find a balance of high esthetics and production efficiencies, James is actively involved in product development and continues to seek out and provide education in the world of dental technology.

Kite Saito, CDT, MDC
1:00pm-1:50pm
Mastering Monolithic - Kite Saito, CDT, MDC
1:00-1:50pm: Michigan 3, East Tower, Concourse (Bronze) Level
With an increasing demand for monolithic restorations, creating lifelike Zirconia cases remains a technician’s biggest challenge. Mimicking and controlling the light dynamic of our crowns is not only complex, but the key to capturing what we see in nature. Join Kite Saito, Master Dental Ceramist as he details his transition from porcelain layered zirconia bridges to fully monolithic to not only reduce intra oral porcelain fractures and increase productivity, but also push esthetic boundaries. During this 50 minute lecture, Kite will share his perspective and approaches to producing extremely esthetic restorations using new materials and techniques on a monolithic canvas. In this session, using his unique perspective on the essential facets of ceramic art and technology, Kite will show you how to overcome the many variables that challenge successful all ceramic restorative outcomes. Kite will review several recent full mouth cases including intraoral photography, 6 month follow up and what steps he took to achieve lifelike results. Attend and learn the nuances necessary for achieving beautiful and natural monolithic restorations simply, and predictably. If you’re seeking to expand your monolithic masterpieces, this lecture is for you! Attend and see firsthand Mr. Saito’s liquid ceramic porcelain strategies to recreate both the challenging and simple structures found in teeth and tissue.
What you will learn:
- How to replicate details and esthetics in thicknesses of 0.1-0.2mm of liquid ceramic vs. 1.5-2.0mm of layered ceramic
- How to properly prepare monolithic zirconia substructures to create more vital restorations
- How patients benefit from fully monolithic restorations vs. layered restorations
Kite Saito moved from his home town of Yokohama, Japan to Los Angeles, California in 1997. In 2004 Kite graduated from L.A. City College’s Dental Technology Program and went on to earn his Master Dental Ceramist degree from UCLA in 2011, working for a number of dental laboratories along the way. In 2018 Kite joined an in house dental laboratory at Ozark Prosthodontics in Fayetteville Arkansas. Ozark Prosthodontics is a prominent dental practice owned by Dean McNeel DMD, which specializes in comprehensive implant retained full arch cases. In this environment, Kite has the opportunity to work intimately with a comprehensive team of doctors and technicians as they look to provide their patients with long lasting, high end esthetic restorations.

3:00pm-3:50pm
Magic of MiYO - David Cabeza, DTG
3:00-3:50pm: Michigan 3, East Tower, Concourse (Bronze) Level
The art and science of all dental technology remains very complex and selecting the correct substrate material while also capturing the correct tooth color, character, and texture without losing the important details remains extremely challenging. In this lecture, David Cabeza, DTG will share the specific steps he takes to achieve optimal monolithic zirconia frameworks, making them ideal for MiYO liquid ceramic application. David will also explain where, why, and when you decide to use them in real-life situations. Five examples of clinical cases will bring the features and benefits of all ceramic materials to life, and critical considerations needed in the restorative process from both a clinical and laboratory perspective will be discussed. If you’re responsible for creating part of or complete monolithic zirconia frameworks – but aren’t completely comfortable with the process – this lecture is for you. David will start with zirconia substrate selection and build from there. Attend this lecture if you want to get help with zirconia processing and MiYO application techniques that can have a huge impact on the esthetic outcome of your ZR monolithic crowns and bridges.
What you will learn:
- How to select proper substrate materials based on patient needs
- How to properly apply MiYO liquid ceramic to produce optimal esthetic results
- How to properly apply MiYO Pink ceramic to produce a lifelike, natural gingival appearance
